THE NEED FOR MYCOTOXIN BINDERS

The production of mycotoxins due to the presence of moulds in feed puts livestock at risk of mycotoxicosis.

Mycotoxins are metabolites produced by mould in mould contaminated raw materials and feeds. These metabolites are toxic, causing mycotoxicosis in livestock when absorbed into the system.

In order to minimize the risk of mycotoxicosis, microbiological control is of utmost importance. This control starts at harvesting, since severe contamination can take place even before the grain reaches the silo. Precautions should thus be taken against moulds at an early stage, in this way preventing mycotoxins from being produced. If no mould is present, no mycotoxins can be produced.

MYCOTOXIN BINDERS

Should the problem of mycotoxin contamination arise, the application of Bitek’s mycotoxin binders will inhibit the absorption of these toxins by livestock.

Should the raw material or feed be exposed to high risk contamination factors like heat and moisture (see "The Need for Mould Inhibitors") the early application of Bitek’s combination mycotoxin binder/mould inbhibitor will inhibit mould growth as well as the subsequent mycotoxin production.

Our mycotoxin binder range includes a blend of activated clays, phytogenics and organic acids. We use a blend of activated clays to increase the binding range and capacities for the relevant mycotoxins. Phytogenic substances are added to stimulate the immune-and hepatic systems, reducing the negative impact of mycotoxins to the animals.
